It happens at every exhibition. Two friends come to the stall, one tries a kurti and looks fabulous, the other tries the same one and frowns at the mirror. Same kurti, same quality, completely different result. It’s never about the body. It’s about the cut — and once you know your cuts, shopping stops being a gamble.
Straight-cut: the diplomat
Falls in a clean line, doesn’t pinch at the waist, doesn’t cling anywhere. If you carry weight around the middle or simply don’t feel like highlighting your waist that day, this is your cut. Keep the bottoms slim so the line stays long. Most of my office-wear customers live in straight cuts and they’re right to.
A-line: the one I hand to everyone unsure
Fitted at the shoulders, opening gently towards the hem. It skims over hips and thighs, which makes it the kindest cut for pear-shaped figures — and honestly for every stage of life. When a customer says “I don’t know what suits me,” an A-line goes into the trial room first. It almost never comes back.
Anarkali: the occasion queen
Fitted bodice, flared skirt, made for twirling. Beautiful on hourglass figures, and equally clever at creating a waist where you’d like the illusion of one. One warning from experience: if you’re petite, wear knee-length anarkalis, not floor-length. The full-length flare swallows shorter frames — I’m saying this as a woman who learnt it in a trial room mirror.
High-low hems: the leg-lengthener
Shorter in front, longer behind. Shows off your bottoms, adds movement, and visually stretches the leg — which makes it a gift for petite women who find long straight kurtis shortening. Lovely with cigarette pants.
And the rule that matters more than any cut
Look at where the hem ends. Wherever a kurti stops, the eye stops too — so a hem that ends exactly at the widest part of your hips is pointing right at it. End above or below, never at. Once you notice this you cannot unsee it, and your trial-room decisions get faster forever.
If you’re between cuts or between sizes, just ask — send your height and usual size on WhatsApp and I’ll tell you honestly what from our stock will flatter you and what won’t. Honest answers are the whole point of buying from a small brand.
